Hand Driven Van De Graaff STEM Lab Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India

Hand Driven Van De Graaff STEM Lab

Product Code : SCL-ES-12504

Bring the fascinating world of electrostatics to life with the Hand-Driven Van De Graaff Generator by Educational Instrument India. Designed specifically for middle school, high school, and undergraduate physics classrooms, this STEM lab essential provides a safe, hands-on way to explore static electricity, the triboelectric effect, and high-voltage phenomena.

Unlike motorized versions, our hand-crank model allows students to actively participate in the generation of static charges. By physically turning the crank, users can intuitively connect mechanical energy with electrical output. This robust instrument is perfect for classic physics demonstrations, including hair-raising experiments, spark discharges, and repulsion of like charges. Built with premium, durable materials, it ensures consistent performance and longevity in busy educational environments.

Key Features:

Interactive Learning: Hand-crank mechanism directly engages students in the energy conversion process.

High Visibility: Large, polished metal dome ensures sparks and electrostatic effects are easily visible from the back of the classroom.

Safe for Classrooms: Generates high voltage but extremely low, safe microampere current.

Durable Construction: Features a sturdy base, tear-resistant rubber belt, and high-quality insulated support column.

How to Use the Hand-Driven Van De Graaff Generator

Setup: Place the generator on a clean, dry, and flat wooden or plastic table. Ensure the humidity in the room is relatively low (dry air produces the best results).

Grounding: Connect the grounding wire attached to the discharge wand securely to the base receptacle of the generator.

Operation: Hold the insulated handle of the discharge wand in one hand. With your other hand, turn the crank at a steady, moderate pace.

Demonstration: Bring the spherical end of the discharge wand close to the main dome (about 1 to 2 inches away). As you crank, you will see and hear a sharp spark jump between the dome and the wand.

Discharge & Safety: Always touch the discharge wand directly to the main dome to fully neutralize the charge before touching the machine with your bare hands.

Safety and Maintenance (E-E-A-T Verified)

Expert Tip: Keep the belt and dome clean. Wipe the dome with a soft, dry cloth and clean the belt with mild soap and water (ensure it is completely dry before use) to maintain peak performance.

Safety Warning: People with pacemakers or other electronic medical devices should not operate or stand near the generator. Keep away from sensitive electronic equipment (phones, laptops).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: Is the high voltage generated by this machine safe for students?

Yes. While the Van De Graaff generator can produce tens of thousands of volts, the actual current (amperage) generated is in the microampere range. It is the current, not the voltage, that poses a danger to humans. The shocks feel similar to a static shock from walking across a carpet.

Q2: Why is the generator not producing sparks?

High humidity is the most common culprit, as moisture in the air bleeds off the static charge. Ensure the room is dry. Additionally, check that the rubber belt is clean, unbroken, and properly tensioned.

Q3: Can this be used for the classic "hair-raising" experiment?

Absolutely. An insulated student can place their hand on the uncharged dome, and as another person turns the crank, the student's hair will stand up due to the repulsion of like electrical charges.

Q4: Do I need batteries or a power outlet?

No. Because this is the hand-driven model by Educational Instrument India, it requires zero external power. It is powered 100% by kinetic human energy.
